Mobiversal builds app for Let’s Do It, Romania!
Here at Mobiversal we love green initiatives. This is the reason why we decided to volunteer to build the iPhone app for Let’s Do It, Romania! (part of letsdoitworld.org initiative). Let’s Do It, Romania!, the biggest social involvement project from the country, in 2010 edition mobilized 200,000 people who gathered in a single day over 550,000 bags of refuse.
The iPhone app is a key element used for mapping purposes, the final objective being to create the Waste map, the key instrument in organizing the volunteers for the cleaning day. The Waste Map shall be at the base of the Waste National Registry, which was developed as an instrument for monitoring the main problem areas, useful for authorities and organizers.
Once the app started, the user gets to see his location on a map and can proceed to add a garbage entry. There are a lot of details that can be filled:
– latitude and longitude are automatically completed, but can also be manually edited in case an external GPS tracking device is used
– a description and estimate of the bags needed, if the garbage is dispersed or not, what percent of the garbage is glass, metal or plastic
– photos can also be added to an entry, with the option to view them
Once you completed the entry, it is saved in the Garbage List. After mapping the assigned area (approximately 3×3 km), the user gets to upload all the entries to a central location.
We’re happy that we are able to give a helping hand and we wish this year’s edition will be a successful one, over 500,000 volunteers are expected on the 24th of September to clean the countryside.
