Oradea City Report Wins Best App in Romania

Oradea City Report, the app we’ve built for Oradea City Hall recently entered the OGP Romania contest, in the section “Best app – Promoting open data”. The app has been voted online by 1997 people and landed on the first spot.

Yesterday, a jury formed by government and civil society representatives analyzed all apps that were part of the contest and decided to give Oradea City Report the award “Best app in Romania 2014”. The decision has been made based on the level transparency they bring and how much they improve the public services.

The Government of Romania adhered to the principles of the Open Government Partnership in 2011, committing to promote the transparency and the use of new technologies and to fight corruption in order to enhance the governance and dialogue with citizens.

Oradea City Report allows responsible citizens to report issues such as potholes, stray dogs, streetlight malfunctions, abandoned vehicles, leaky pipes, bad parking, and many more. Petitions have a description, photo, GPS location, and are automatically fed into the City’s work order system so that they can be tracked and assigned to service teams. Users can follow the status of their request and receive the solution right in the app.

In under a month the app has been installed by over 3000 citizens who sent around 900 petitions. The app was also praised on national tv networks like ProTV or Digi24, and is set to start a change wave on how Romanian cities connect with their citizens.

We recently saw that Cluj City Hall is working on an app that will help people find free parking spots, they’ve mapped all the parking areas and they are planing to install sensors on each parking spot, so drivers can be directed to the ones that are available. We really love this trend in Romania and we’re looking forward to be part of other innovative projects!
